Appearance-wise, Shun'ya is always dressed like he's off on a fishing trip: black flak jacket, long-sleeved dark grey shirt, cargo shorts and skin-tight leggings topped up with steel-capped combat boots. Underneath his jacket, he has his concealed pistol, his tanto, and his summoning tubes, all so he can walk amongst the public incognito. Has a bit of a reputation for being quirkily 'old-fashioned', since he insists on the superiority of 'the old ways of doing things', and this extends somewhat to his fashion sense.
background;
Born in Kyoto, Shun'ya was orphaned at a young age when his parents were murdered by demons. He was rescued by Atsuo, then Raidou Kuzunoha, and was soon adopted by him as his successor. Due to being raised since childhood to fight demons and to protect Japan from any and all supernatural threats, he has an interesting personality and an equally interesting approach to life...He inherited the title of Raidou Kuzunoha XXXII at age 25 and quickly adapted to his new duties, mostly due to Atsuo's thorough preparation for this moment. However, Shun'ya's approach to his duty is vastly different to his predecessor: while Atsuo was optimistic and liked to believe in the best of his fellow man while retaining a healthy amount of realism, Shun'ya is almost nihilistic in his perception of humanity and the direction of society as a whole.
That's not to say he shirks his duty in the slightest. Shun'ya always puts in 120% to minimise civilian casualties and to stop any and all plots by the Phantom Society, demons or rogue devil summoners that could cause mass harm or chaos. It's just that he retains a rather blasé attitude about the entire thing, infamously declaring that "nothing in life matters, so no need to worry how it ends!" - this makes him a rather tricky opponent to face, as he's prone to taking dangerous risks to achieve his aims and possesses no fear regarding his self-preservation.
As Raidou, Shun'ya currently serves the organisation Yatagarasu, as the Kuzunoha have done for millennia, but there is a considerable amount of friction between them due to intense disagreements on their views and methods. However, Shun'ya acknowledges that him breaking away from Yatagarasu would cause more harm than good to the innocent civilians of Tokyo and so recognises their authority over him. However, he's a noted maverick and is prone to disobeying orders over specific things. It's unsurprising that Yatagarasu have a red flag on his file, and Shun'ya is always closely watched by various Yatagarasu Shadows in case his termination is ever required.
(Shun'ya always makes sure to find these covert Shadows and sneak up on them, just to watch them scramble.)
Additionally, it's difficult to ever gauge Shun'ya's true feelings. He's an expert at maintaining a rather airheaded or cheerful mask, feigning ignorance or apathy over events or opinions. This makes him difficult to read, which is just how he likes it. However, it means he has no meaningful connections with his fellow devil summoners, as the only person he ever cared about no longer walks the earth (Atsuo).
That is the sole reason he took up the Raidou title: to make Atsuo proud. Shun'ya's feelings towards his predecessor are intense, complicated and borderline obsessive, and he views his only purpose in life to live up to Atsuo's expectations, even if it means slavishly tying himself to the role of Raidou until his death.
Not that anyone will ever know that part of himself...
